Literature Text

i’m running on these
train track
ribs of yours
trying to shake
your salt
out of my
wounds.

i know the train
is coming,
but i’m so
high on adrenaline
and midnight
coffee breaks
that the world
is just a blur
of muted colors
and vibrant
sparks of
sound.

the x’s on
my calendar are
choking me,
it’s just a time bomb
t-t-ticking
in my chest
reminding me
why i can’t
string four simple
letters together
anymore.

i can hear
the whistle
soft and slow
as it splits the
silence spilling from
my cracked lips;
my eyes are closed
while i spin
in and out of your
fingers
evading your
grasp.

it’ll be here any
second.

three.

two.

one.

i knew this collision
was coming,
so why’d i flinch?

full title: didn't your mother ever tell you not to play on the train tracks

Wow this is one of the most incredible things I have ever read. The countdown to the end really got me.
